The Senior’s Guide To Skincare

Skincare

As we get older, our skin goes through all sorts of changes that require special care.  That’s why having the proper skincare routine in hand can not only help maintain a youthful glow, but it can also address concerns like dryness and wrinkles.

Not to mention, when you’re over the age of 70, you still want to look and feel your best. If you’re looking for ways to keep your skin looking great, here’s everything you need to know about skincare in your golden years.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

One of the most important aspects of a skincare routine is making sure your skin stays hydrated. This is because the older that we get, the more skin loses moisture easily, which is why hydration is a must

You want to use a gentle cleanser that hydrates adequately and always follow with a rich moisturizer containing all the right nutrients. Look for products with ingredients like hyaluronic acid glycerin and ceramides. Also, don’t forget the importance of hydrating yourself from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water will help maintain hydration as you’re keeping yourself hydrated from the inside out.

Use Sunscreen

Even when you think it’s an overcast day, it’s still critical that you wear sunscreen. Sun exposure is the primary cause of premature aging, which is why you want to always apply sunscreen regardless of the weather conditions. In addition to sunscreen, you should also consider wearing large-brimmed hats and of course, sunglasses.

Eat Well

What many people don’t realize is the correlation between your skin’s well-being and what you eat. When you eat a diet that’s rich in all the right nutrients and minerals, your skin will show for it. Foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids for example, salmon and flaxseed will provide goodness for your skin to stay plump and smooth.

Don’t forget the importance of fruits and vegetables too. These types of foods provide essential vitamins like vitamin C&E, and can even promote collagen production and protect against damage.

Prioritize A Nighttime Routine

The nighttime is a critical moment for your skin to rejuvenate itself that’s why, prioritizing a nighttime routine is a must. Nighttime is when you should apply a nourishing night cream after thoroughly washing the day’s makeup and dirt off, and following with serum or other ingredients like retinol or peptides.

That way, while you sleep, your skin will regenerate and protect itself against aging without you having to do anything at all. It’s as simple as going to sleep and letting all these products do the work for you.  That way, you can rest assured knowing that you’ll wake up the next day with hydrated and smooth skin rather than flaky dried, and wrinkled skin.
