High temperatures can leave you feeling drained, and irritable, and even impact your health. Fortunately, with a few smart strategies, you can keep cool and comfortable without cranking up the air conditioning or putting your head in your freezer. Here are five effective tips for staying cool this summer.

Improve Your Home’s Ventilation

Proper ventilation can make a world of difference when it comes to keeping your home cool, especially during the later hours of the evening and early morning. By letting in fresh air to circulate, you can naturally lower the temperature indoors, making it easier to stay comfortable throughout the day.  Don’t be afraid to use air conditioning at peak heat hours, yet save yourself money by using the natural and free cool air outside when the temperatures drop.

Stay Hydrated

Perhaps one of the most important things we can do when temperatures rise is make sure that you drink as much water as possible. Staying hydrated won’t just help your body stay healthy, but you can also regulate your body temperature. 

If drinking water isn’t really your thing, then try and find ways to make your water taste better period perhaps it may involve adding a little bit of flavored powder, or even a simple slice of lemon. Whatever it takes to get yourself to sit more water throughout the day, the better right just try to get into the habit of regularly hydrating, and your body will thank you for it. 

Use Shades

One of the biggest causes of your house overheating is sunlight streaming through the windows. Sun can significantly raise your indoor temperature you’re going to help build like nothing short of an oven blocking out the sunlight by using the right window shades, significantly reducing the need for air conditioning or extensive fans. 

Close your curtains during the hottest parts of the day, typically from late morning until the early evening. Ideally, you should opt for blackout curtains or even thermal shades which are specifically designed to block out the heat more than the standard ones. If you have an outdoor space, consider additionally installing awnings which can provide additional shade and help significantly lower indoor temperatures since you reduce the amount of direct sunlight projected onto your windows.

Dress Lightly

The clothes that you wear can have a significant impact on your body’s temperature. This is especially true if you’re outdoors. You want to choose the right clothing and fabrics that can help keep your body temperature as low as possible. You want to allow the sweat to evaporate while also keeping you comfortable during your activities. 

Ideally, you should opt for lightweight loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics like cotton or even linen. Remember color matters too. Light colors like white pastels or beige are better made for outdoor activities than darker ones.
